I am so excited about your new book, Heart of the Matter coming out this May! I've read all of your books. I will admit I've read Something Borrowed and Something Blue twice! This story NEVER gets old...I feel like I'm right with Rachel and Darcy! I even named my Chocolate Lab Dexter! Thank you for such amazing books!

Congrats on your new site and blog!! I am a loyal fan and I can't wait for your new book to get its butt out in May!!! My favorite will always be Something Borrowed. It spoke to me at that "early 30s" time of my life! I have read all your books over a 48 hour period. Even with 2 little ones, I can't put the books down.
ReplyDeleteI am excited about the movie, but I have to admit (as with all books that "go movie") I have mixed emotions about it. It's hard to change my vision of Rachel and Darcy. Although, I love the cast so far! I plan to read it one more time before I hit the theater. :)
Toxic Friendship? Just ended one. Two words - draining and unrewarding. Ick.
Best wishes and keep up the good work! I love following you on FB and I will check back here often!

Love them all! I read Something Borrowed in the weeks before my wedding ;) but couldn't put the book down. Since then I've got all my girls hooked. I just read it again on vacation for the 3rd or 4th time. I always show friends the first email that Dex wrote to Rachel when I lend them the book to read.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate all of your books for your ability to put into words what I can't about relationships. They seem to always relate to something I'm experiencing in life- no matter when I read them- bride to be or wife of 4 years. Love them!
Congrats on the movie and the new book, my friends and I had a great time meeting you at Park 75 last week! I have read all of your books and have thoroughly enjoyed each of them. I am so excited for the movie and love hearing about all the new casting selections. I would love to see Olivia Wilde or Rachel McAdams as Darcy.

Your books are page turners. I am impatiently awaiting the release of your next book! Thank you for the wonderful characters Rachel and Darcy. They capture the complexity of friendship between women. There can be alot of dark and light between even the closet of friends.

I started reading your books when I went home for summer in college one year. I live in a small town, so I was really bored! My grandma suggested that I read one of your books (Something Borrowed), and I just fell in love with it! It was the first book I had read just for the sake of reading for as long as I can remember. I have read all of your books and now I read all the time. So I really give you credit for getting me back into reading! I am also now working at an elementary school library! Crazy how things work out!
ReplyDeleteAs for the casting of Something borrowed- when I was reading the book I kept thinking of the Victoria Secret Model Alessandra for Darcy. Of course you shouldn't cast her, but someone who looks just like her! For Dex, I was thinking Kelly Ripa's husband Mark Consuelos in my head. Rachel was harder to imagine because she was being described as frumpy but I wanted her to be pretty! Drew Barrymore is a pretty girl who could also be frumpy!
You are so talented and please keep doing what you are doing! It's great! :)

I am disappointed that you are unable to come to Denver. I have enjoyed all of your books, and cannot wait for your new one! I started reading your books in my early twenties and have enjoyed your realistic and true female characters!

I have read all your books and love every one of them. But I have to say my favorite is Something Borrowed. I think because I found it one day while browsing waiting for my son to come out of his Social Skills class - he has autism - and immediately fell in love with it. I have also been to every one of your signing at the Huntington Book Revue and will be there again in May.
ReplyDeleteSo far loving all the picks to play Rachel, Ethan and Dex. Still in the air about Darcy. And as for soulmate - I have it in my husband Eric. He is patient, kind, understanding, strong, funny. Everything I wanted in a partner.
Keep up the amazing writing.

Emily,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love all your books! Once I start one, I can’t put it down – they are addicting. I have gotten my friends to start reading your books too and now they are loyal fans. My girlfriends and I are starting a book club in June and the first book we’re planning on reading is “Heart of the Matter”. I can’t wait to get everyone’s thoughts on the book, characters, message, etc. I definitely plan on using your Book Club notes for conversation starters.
I must say that my all time favorite book will always be “Something Borrowed”. I just fell in love with the book and couldn’t put it down. It was a book that I was sad when it ended because I wanted to keep reading it. Darcy and Rachel’s friendship really drew me in .
Being a native of Atlanta, “Love The One You’re With” was interesting to me because I knew all the places you mentioned in the book. I must admit though that this wasn’t one of my favorite Emily Giffin books, because I didn’t feel that Ellen really took her marriage to Andy seriously. At times it made me mad that she was carrying on the way that she did with Leo and making secretive plans to see him, etc. She didn’t really know how wonderful her life was and I felt that she really took it for granted.
I am really excited that you are coming out with a movie! Yea, Darcy and Rachel come to life! I am looking forward to see who is cast for what character, etc.
Emily, I look forward to meeting you at your next book signing!

I could relate to all your books which made them an easy and heartwarming read. Thank you for writing such wonderful novels!
ReplyDelete"Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" are classics and I can not wait for the first movie to be released! These books make you truly understand the importance of hearing both sides out. I really felt the emotions both girls were feeling.
"Love The One You're With" touched my heart. Some people don't understand the power of your first love. Even though you may not be in love with that person, they still hold a special place in your heart.
I read "Baby Proof" right after the marriage to my wonderful Husband. I loved the way the book ended. Not everyone follows what society deems as normal (get married, have kids.) It seems like when you are dating, all people can ask is "when are you getting married?" Then you get married and all people can ask is "when are you having kids?" Why do we ask these questions? We can not control some aspects of our life and if we can control it, we do not have to conform to what society expects of us. All the more reason for me to LOVE this book!
Again, thank you for your wonderful books! I would love an advance copy of Heart of the Matter. Please pick me!
P.S. May 11th is my best friend's birthday. What a great present!
P.S.S. I love the addition of Kate Hudson to the cast. :)

Congrats on the new site, blog, book and movie - wow, you are busy! Really looking forward to the new book and plan on coming to the book signing in West Chester on the 19th! Can you sign a Kindle - or for that matter, tell your publishers to release "Heart" on a Kindle?!? : )
ReplyDeleteYour books go beyond the typical "Chick Lit' and really touch upon what real friendships and lives are all about. Keep up the good work!
You mentioned to attach a picture - can't figure out how to do that, but I do actually have a picture on my wedding day holding "Something Blue"...so does that count?!?
Really looking forward to the movie too - I have been reading about the castings, and I think that they are spot on. Can't wait to see it!!
Keep on writing, and we will keep on reading!!

Hi Emily!
ReplyDeleteSO glad it is almost time for your new book to come out! I have been waiting patiently but it has been difficult--I have read all of your books and am excited to finally read "Heart of the Matter".
I am very happy for you that "Something Borrowed" is going to be a movie--I love that book, love that book, LOVE THAT BOOK. For being such a fun read, I think it really has a lot to offer in the thought-provoking department and I have tried to get everyone I know to read it. I love the casting of Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel--perfect, imho--she has such a darling face and that is how I picture Rachel. I am not sure about the casting of Dexter (ahhh, Dexter, what a character!) but it would be hard to make him everything he is to us in our imaginations...
The contest is such a fun idea--would love to win even though it would be a "Staycation" for me--a fellow ATLien!
I wish you continued success and hope to meet you at an upcoming Atlanta book signing!
Best,

Wow! When my cousin first told me to read your book because she thought I could relate to it (Something Borrowed), my reaction was "okay, not a big deal... I don't read much but I'm bored, so fine, let me borrow it"... From the first chapter to the last, I was hooked! I am not a reader, but I have learned to enjoy reading through your writings. You basically have written my life story... not just in the first book, but in the 2nd and 4th book. I have to admit, I didn't finish Baby Proof... I moved on to Love the One You're With - which is my current life situation now... I don't look for something more, hoping to get something better. I've learned to be content... and even though your books are just fictional stories, they are very relevant to my life and at times I find myself seeking guidance from your books (Crazy as it may sound). My cousin is the hugest EG fan... and I have climbed on the bandwagon to join her... I love your books!!!

ReplyDeleteLove the new website and name logo!
ReplyDeleteI randomly picked up Something Borrowed in Barnes&Noble in 2005 just weeks after it was first released. It was then that I found my favorite author and favorite book--so thank you Emily!! I love Darcy. She is so much like me in many ways. I instantly fell in love with the characters and was so excited when i learned that there was a sequel!! And told in Darcy's perspective?? I was majorly pumped!
After that day in 2005, I have recommended these books more times that I can remember. I even had my Something Borrowed to so many people that it never found it's way back to me--but it's okay because it makes me happy that so many people loved it!
I love the casting--the movie is going to be great! :)
I am proud and honored to say that I have been an Emily Giffin/Something Borrowed fan since the very beginning.
Congrats Emily on all your success!!

ReplyDeleteWhat great news. I was just at Borders Books and "Something Borrowed" was on the shelf up front. I was wondering if you were coming out with a new book. Then I got home and Barnes and Noble had emailed me that your new book was on pre-order.

Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteYay for blogs! I think the book and story that I will always have a fondness for is Something Blue. I read it first because I first noticed you and your writing when I saw you at a reading and signing for that book at the Margaret Mitchell House, years ago here in Atlanta. Since then I haven't been able to get enough! I can't wait to read Heart of the Matter and see Something Borrowed in theaters. I LOVE the choice of Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel. Best casting ever!
I also met you with my friends at the Chocolate Buffet a few weekends ago. My friend Tai already posted above! She better take me on the city 'staycation' if she wins!
Can't wait for the new book, the movie, and many more of both in the future.

ReplyDeleteI have read all of your books and absolutely love them! My favorite is "Love The One You're With" because it made me think about my college boyfriend whose mom really wanted us to get married when we were 22 and had graduated, but we never did. We dated on and off throughout our 20s and early 30s while each dating other people too until the time I met the man who I would marry where as he always thought we would end up together. To this day, even though I am happily married, I still always wonder, what would have happened if we had ended up together?
ReplyDeleteI really hope you come to Chicago on your book tour as I would love to meet you and have one of my books signed. I am super excited about your next book! I am just wondering, will you ever do a sequel to Baby Proof? I just re-read it this past weekend and am wondering if you would ever tell what happens to Ben and Claudia after they get back together? I would love to see them have a baby and have Claudia experience motherhood and see if Ben is still as enthusiastic about kids as he was before.

Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteI have truly enjoyed all of your books. Baby Proof was the first book that I had come across. I was pregnant at the time when I went to Baltimore, MD with my husband on one of his work trips and noticed the book prominently displayed in Barnes & Noble. That is the moment I first discovered Emily Giffin, the author, who would become one of my favorites. I have since read each of your novels and have recommended them to friends. Your writing is absolutely magnetic. Thank you for sharing your talent & congratulations on your success! Your personal story of going after the whisper in your head & heart is inspiring.

I love your new site and I’m so happy that you are blogging!
ReplyDeleteI bought Something Borrowed when it came out in hardback, but (don’t hate me) put it on the shelf. I love to read, but LOVE BUY books even more! Expensive habit. But then months later my friend told me she spent the whole day in front of the fire with her bedroom door locked, reading this great book. She said it was SB. She had the paperback, so this tells you…anyway I grabbed my book and threw it in my suitcase, b/c I was going for a girls weekend in Florida. Well I started it on the plane and finished it at the beach the next day. Then I made my girlfriend leave the beach and take me to B&N to buy Something Blue…but I couldn’t find the book and was climbing the walls! Soon realized I was looking for Emily Griffin! Finished Something Blue by the time I left for home. Left both books behind for my girlfriend to read….who passed them on, and on, till I finally got them back!
I love all your books. I’m torn between Something Borrowed & Love the One Your With, as my favorite. I love the character of Ellen, because I can relate to her predicament of living in the ATL suburbs!!! (guess where I live).
I started a book club last year and it was my responsibility to pick the first book. I struggled, because I really wanted everyone to love it and to stay with the club (people were reluctant at first …”I don’t have time to read”). I decided on Something Borrowed even though it had been many years…and everyone loved it! Loved it. Most of the group came to the first meeting, not only having read Something Borrowed, but all four books! You make people rediscover (or discover) the joy of reading. I really admire you for that.
BTW, I really like Baby Proof, too…but it’s funny, that book really gets some ladies (moms) worked up! That was a heated discussion. Love it.
Something Borrowed is my all-time favorite because I felt you drew a clear picture of how everything is not black and white. Cheating is something terrible to do to a friend and a finance', however the cheaters may not necessarily be bad people. There is always a background story. I also appreciated how you were able to relay that not all relationships are what they seem. "Best friends", "Perfect couple", etc. More often than not there is a lot going on behind relationships that we all envy from the outside.
ReplyDeleteI loved Rachel, Dex, Darcy and Ethan. They are characters that stayed with me after I read both SB books. I cannot wait for the movie to come out! John Krasinski is genius casting! Everyone else I'll have to wait and see about. My perfect Rachel was Rachel Mcadams but Ginnifer Goodwin is a good actress - hope she does well in the role.
Heart of the Matter comes out the day before my birthday! It will be my most anticipated pre-birthday gift to myself!

I have read all of your books multiple times & love every one of them. My husband hates when he sees me reading one because he knows I won't put it down till I'm finished. I am pregnant & am now re-reading Baby Proof. I have related to characters in each book. Either feeling as if I had once been in their shoes or knowing someone who has. Thank you so much for writing books that so many women can relate to. My only problem with your books is that you don't release more of them more often! =) I wish you were coming to New Orleans on your book tour. I can't wait for the new book!

Emily,
ReplyDeleteLast summer my boyfriend and I were having a rough time, I was devastated and was at the bookstore with one of my friends. I saw your books on display and bought Love the One You're With first. I really related to Ellen, the way she craved answers, craved the interaction with Leo. We have all been there, wondered why a relationship went sour, asked the question what went wrong- what did I do? In the end Love the One You're with certainly kept me occupied during the minutes and hours that I wanted to call my boyfriend or cry (haha), but most of all it made me smile when Ellen saw Andy and knew that she belonged with him...when all along I was rooting for the one who got away.
For too long now, I have been a slave to my Nursing textbooks and haven't been able to read for my own enjoyment without feeling guilty. I've read all of your books and am so anxious to read Heart of the Matter. You are so creative and I know I won't be disappointed... your books have really made me value my life, love, and friendships - thank you.

I can not wait for your new book "Heart of the Matter" to come out! I have just finished all 4 of your books in the past 2 weeks. I started with "Love the One You're With" & fell in love with your writing style, so I picked up the rest. I knew I had to read more. I just couldn't put them down! ReplyDeleteCongrats on the newest book! I can't wait to read it and have already pre-ordered my copy. Something Borrowed and Something Blue are my two favorites because regardless of your path in life, you can always identify with Darcy or Rachel and sometimes both. I cannot wait to see these characters come to life on the big screen and think it's great you've kept your readers up to date on the casting of the movie via your facebook fan page. ReplyDeleteHi Emily,
ReplyDeleteI still think with fondness of winning the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta auction and having you as guest to my 30th birthday "book club brunch." Wow - have things changed for me since we met at the Hope & Will Ball! I'm married now (not to Ferris Bueller ;) ). In fact, you could say I married my soul mate - the way you described the how easy it all was for Ben and Claudia when they first met in Baby Proof pretty much describes us. We are having a wonderful time as newlyweds. Anyway, meeting you was worth every death-glare I received from the other auction goers that evening in Feb. 2008. Hope to see you and can't wait to read HEART OF THE MATTER - it looks fantastic. Hope you're doing well.

Hey Emily,
ReplyDeleteSomething Blue actually found me, it was left at the beach house in Seaside, FL by someone before us, and I read it in one giant gulp, finishing it before the sun had set on our first day at the beach! I immediately went to the tiny bookstore and bought all of your books, finishing them all on the beach! I loved them all and I can't wait to read Heart of the Matter.
I'm an avid re-reader, I flip through most of my books at least once a year just to remember the good times we've shared, and Love the One You're With is definitely a favorite. I live in Atlanta, so it was cool to hear all the references to the places I go quite often (Westminster, for instance...) I can't wait to attend your book signing, and am definitely looking forward to Something Borrowed. (The instant I heard the name John Krasinski? That did it for me. If he weren't engaged...)
Congrats on the new book!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your books. Your writing style makes a person feel they are friends with your characters. I have read all of your books numerous times and never tire of them. (My husband teases me, he doesn't understand how someone can read the same book more than once). I especially love Something Borrowed and Something Blue, the story of Rachel and Darcy left me wanting more. I cannot wait for the movies to come out! I think that the perfect character to play Marcus is James Marsden. I pictured him before he was suggested!
Can't wait for Heart of the Matter to come out!

ReplyDeleteI love the new website layout and cannot wait until May!
I've loved all the multi-faceted female characters that breathe life into your novels. I once had a friend ask me if I was more of a "Rachel" or "Darcy" and answered that I honestly have threads of both woven in me. There is a lot of color in your writing and I do hope that it's translated over in the movie.
I read Love the One You're With first, so that's housed under a special roof for me. My charming, down to earth boyfriend is the Indian version of Andy, so I find myself referring to pages of that book on a weekly basis. A lot of times, women think that passion and darkness equal a "real" relationship. I think there are twisted parts of us that enjoy being in pain sometimes; but if we're lucky, we learn that those relationships usually hold us back in some way.
Good luck with all of the incredible things you have ahead! I cannot wait to see you in New York City (with Indian Andy, of course).
Love,

I have to say my favorite book of yours and of all time is Something Blue. I love Darcy and all the triumphs she has!
That being said I am so thrilled that Kate Hudson has signed on, she will be fabulous!
Being recently married I know that I have found my soul mate. A soul mate is someone who loves you for you, flaws and all. Once you find that person its truly amazing!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your books! My favorite would have to be Love the One You're With. In July 2008, I was nearing the end of my third pregnancy when I went into labor a little sooner than expected. I had just finished a book and didn't have a new one lined up. AHHHHH!!! I had been on the waiting list at the library for Love the One You're With and believe it or not, I received a call that day to let me know it was in. Now, my library is pretty strict when it comes to who is allowed to pick up books. So I called and begged the woman to allow my mother to pick it up. My contractions were pretty strong, so I told her (even though I could barely breathe) that I NEEDED this book and I was not having this baby without it in my hands!!! They were all cracking up and allowed my mother to pick it up for me. Well, I went on to have my third baby girl and happily read the book during my hospitalization. My daughter is now 20 months old and every time I visit the library, we all have a laugh remembering the crazy lady in labor who HAD to have Love the One You're With! So, needless to say, I have a special connection with your book. But I love all of them and can't wait for the new one. I always find time to read them even though I have a busy household with all of these little girls! Thank you for the enjoyment!!!!!

Hi Emily!
ReplyDeleteLove the website! I am so excited for your book tour!
The first book I picked up of yours was "Love the One You're With". I was so pleased with how well written the story was, that I went back to the book store and purchased all the books you had ever written. I cannot decide which book I enjoyed the most!
"Love the One You're With" was such a great story to read about. You really depicted Ellen's feelings with both of the loves in her lives that any woman can relate to! Towards the end you were deciding which man she should really choose! I was especially pleased with the ending!
"Something Borrowed" was one book I could COMPLETELY relate to with a close friend of mine. You took the words right out of my mouth and I really felt like I was reading a biography about my life and the people in it. Loved! Loved! Loved!
Congratulations on the movie! That is a huge accomplishment for you! Keep up the great work and I am SO glad you finally came out with a new book! (I have been googling since I finished "Love the One You're With")
See you soon!

I studied abroad in 2007 in Florence, Italy. I received a package from a friend from back home with a book in it. I had no idea what the book was, but my friend said I would love it. After the 32 straight hours it took me to read Something Borrowed, my 10 other roommates read the book. We all loved it and couldn't finish it fast enough.
ReplyDeleteI went to a bookstore in Florence and, luckily, they had Something Blue. Once again, I read the book in about a day and so did all my roommates.
To get 11 college students who are studying abroad to stay in to read a book for fun is a big accomplishment for our generation and YOU DID IT!
As an Atlanta native, I acknowledge your hard work and I am excited for many more books to come.

Baby Proof is still my favorite book of yours. When I first read it, I was devastated. I didn't want children, and I didn't want my (then fictitious) husband to change his mind about having them. I loved it, but it destroyed me.
ReplyDeleteI read it again two years ago, when my now husband and I were talking around the one thing we knew might break us up: he wanted kids and I didn't. I reread Baby Proof in one sitting, and I knew I did in fact want children with him. I'm still amazed how the book spoke to me in two completely different ways at two different times in my life, and I will always love it for that.
Congratulations on the birth of your blog! - and it's a lot like having a new baby - you'll feel bad if you don't give it the attention you think it deserves!
ReplyDeleteI read all three of your books in quick succession last year and I have to say hand on heart that I've never read an author whose words are just so beautifully, sparsely used. Nothing overstated or overused or over-wrung - no extra calories anywhere! I've read the first chapter of HOTM and I can't wait to read the rest. It'd be great to win a copy!

Love the new website! As I was finishing "Something Borrowed" I had to immediately rush out and buy the hardcover edition of "Something Blue." When I tore through that in a matter of days, I was left empty. Craving more EG! Your books are delightfully addictive and I simply can't wait for the new one. It would be an honor to be part of the book launch!

Something Borrowed IS hands down my favorite book. I can't even begin to tell you what the tattered pages look like - I've read it hundreds of times. I am huuuuge fan and cannot wait to read/get my hands on HOTM.

PS. I also grew up in Naperville and I loved how you tied it into your books! I always want to read it as "Naperville North High School" as opposed to how you have it written. :)
I loved Something Borrowed, but Something Blue is my all time favorite book...beating out Gone with the Wing and Pride and Prejudice! I am a fellow author (I write YA novels) and someday I hope to be able to create a character as complex, real and utterly unforgettable as Darcy! Still, to this day, I remember how I felt when I first read Something Blue...outraged, amused, and then satisfied when Darcy finally grows up and realizes what love really is. I give copies of this book to everyone: mother, sister, friends, guy friends, and each and every person has told me how much they enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThe haunting beginning of HEART OF THE MATTER had me in chills and I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of it!

Congrats on the new book and new site! I just re-read Baby Proof for the fourth time and cried like a baby AGAIN.
ReplyDeleteMe and my husband are both choosing to be childfree and every time I read Baby Proof, I cry. Your book touches on my biggest fear: That one of us will decide to have a bay while the other is still on the No Baby Train and we'll end up getting divorced. But every time I finish the book, I feel a sense of peace and that is the best feeling.
the website looks great emily. im such a huge fan of our books and your writing. i literally feel like i'm in the book. i hope you write tons and tons of more books for us to read! cant wait for heart of the matter!!!

Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun contest- Congrats on the beautiful new website and book coming out!
"Something Borrowed" was the first book I read of yours and I have been a fan from the first page. I loved Rachel- while she was doing such an unlikeable thing- you couldnt help but root for her. We all have those toxic friendships we just cant seem to shake... even as adults.
"Love the one your with" spoke to me on another level- there is something about your first love that I dont think you ever shake no matter how much time has gone by or how happy you are now even without them in your life anymore. Its interesting to see her put that fantasy of who he was to the test. I loved the ending. It couldn't have been more perfect. It was so true and honest.
Looking forward to what's next!

Hi Emily, I am a loyal fan and love all your books. I'm looking forward to your newest being released in May. I can most relate to "Love the one your with" I think a lot of us have thought of what if's before. I am proud to say that I have been happily married with two boys for 8 years now, but we got married young, right out of high school, and had our first son around the same time. I have thought about "the one who got away" a few times, thinking what is really meant to be, this book really put it all in perspective for me. I felt better knowing I wasn't alone in thinking/feeling this way. You are great writer, keep up the great work.

After reading Something Borrowed, I got Something Blue and could. not. put. it. down. I stayed up late to finish it. I was sad to see it come to an end, but knew owning it I could always reread it again and again.
Looking forward to diving head first into your next book.

ReplyDeleteYour books are just amazing. I was on a business trip on the plane reading your book and the person next to me gasped so loud that many people turned around. She saw that I was reading your book and jumped into a conversation about Rachel and Darcy and what I thought and what she thought. It was so much fun! I'm glad another book is on the way because I was so upset when I read all of your books. I am craving more!
Good luck with the launch party and much success.

Emily,
ReplyDeleteI have never identified more closely with fictional characters until I began reading yours. Sometimes I feel as if these characters are living my life or the life I would have wanted to live. I loved "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue." Then "Baby Proof" came out and that hit even closer to home. When you wrote "Love the One You're With," I finished it in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. I almost always list it as my favorite book when asked.
Thrilled about the movies and looking forward to even taking my husband to see them. While I know he wouldn't be interested in the books, I do think he'll enjoy the movie versions. Casting is going great. Fantastic choices.
I already know exactly who I would bring to the event. I have a dear friend who shares my love of good books. Ironically, her birthday is May 8, and mine is May 9. I can't think of a more fabulous way to celebrate both our birthdays.
Very much looking forward to "Heart of the Matter." I'm sure it will be a great read. I've never been disappointed.
Good luck with all your future endeavors. I'm sure even more success will come your way. Thanks so much for connecting with your readers like you do.

Emily, I recently discovered your books and fell in love with them! I think I read all of them in just a few weeks! I was really touched by Something Blue and Love the One You're With! My name is Ellen, too, and like the character, I sometimes wonder about the way things might have been. Never been in that situation, thankfully. Keep on writing please-I am so eager for your next book to come out! As a working Mommy, I don't have lots of time to read, but I just can't put your books down!! I have a secret desire to be a writer, especially of childrens books. Would love the experience of talking with a real, published writer who inspires me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, on the May 11th timeline...1983...My mom goes into labor! How awesome of a birthday present would this trip be for me?! Birthdays have been hard for me over the last few years. First, let me say that I love all your books. When I read them, I feel like I'm sitting at the kitchen table or a coffee house having a deep conversation with one of my friends. However, I must confess that I've officially lost count of how many times I've read Something Borrowed. I do know we're talking double-digits though! Besides the authenticity of Darcy and Rachel's relationship, the clever humor and the delicious feelings between Dex and Rach, what I love most about this book is that every time I start to read it, I root for someone different.
ReplyDeleteAt times, I am Team Darcy. How dare Rachel do that to her best friend – no matter what kind of pal she thinks Darcy has been to her. She could've stopped herself from stepping over the boundaries that girl-code clearly outlines.
And sometimes I'm Team Rachel. I wonder how good of friends are they in the first place? Are they still friends simply because they've known each other a long time? Do they even like each other? And how could Rachel stop herself when her one true love is standing before her?
I won't even get started on Dex... I have more love and hate for him than any character in the book!
Your books are an escape... the right balance of drama, romance and humor without going too far in any direction. Thank you for all your hard work and for providing us with fantastic reads.

The first time I read "Something Borrowed", I couldn't believe it. It was like you had written about me and my sister. One part in particular jumped out at me - when Rachel constantly had to give up a good seat on the plane to Darcy. ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I have to say how excited I am for "Heart of the Matter" and how very much I'm looking forward to meeting you when your book tour brings you to Philadelphia this May. As an aspiring author (querying agents for my newest manuscript now!), I can't tell you how inspiring you and your books have been to me. I think the best way to describe it is to say that your love of writing shines through every word on every page. Your passion for the art of writing is clear, and it makes your books a joy to read. The story of your journey to break into the field and become a published author inspires me to keep following my heart and dreams, too.
"Baby Proof" is the first book of yours that I read. It caught my eye when I was at the bookstore, and I proceeded to read the entire thing in just a few hours. I'm pretty sure I ended up with a headache from reading it so quickly, but I honestly couldn't put it down! It was much the same with all of your books. I read them each straight through, unable to stop. "Baby Proof" and "Something Blue" are my very favorites, but I truly loved all four of them. You have an incredible talent for making your characters so real and so easy to relate to. I think we can all see a little bit of ourselves in at least one of your characters.
Writing my most recent novel has been a "work of heart" for me, and it's so easy to see that being an author is that same thing for you. Thank you for inspiring me, for writing books that will forever be some of my favorites, and for sharing your love of writing with all of us!

ReplyDeleteLOVE your books - and have been counting down to Heart of the Matter since I finished Love the One You're With (which I purchased the day it was releasted) and read the first chapter! I have loved every book since I started with Something Borrowed - which reminded me of my friendship with my friend Brittany! Me = Rachel, Brittany = Darcy. We are still friends - it's now a long distance friendship which works better - but I totally relate to how Rachel always felt about her friendship with Darcy! It is difficult to maintain because she is a fun friend but has hurt me many times. I'm just not willing to give up yet! I've just recently read Something Borrowed and Something Blue again because I am just so excited for the movie!

ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of all of your books and I am really looking forward to seeing them come to life on the big screen.
ReplyDeleteI randomly picked up Something Borrowed at the book store a couple of summers ago and I haven't stopped since. Almost every summer I pick up Something Borrowed and Something Blue and read them while out at the beach or by the pool. They are actually my "go to" reads for a sunny day.
I think my favorite thing about your writing is that your characters are relatable. Not only did you make us dislike Darcy in the first book, but then you flipped sides and hit us with something that we could have never predicted in the second book. I fell in love with Dary in Something Blue. All of your characters are great, and your writing is even better!
Please keep the books coming and as long as you do, you can count on me to read them! :)
Thanks for your hard work and your continued creativity!

Hi!
ReplyDeleteI first fell in love with your books when I cracked the spine of SOMETHING BORROWED and met Rachel, a rule following, obediant girl like myself. I've since devoured all of your books and passed them on to all my friends.
I met you at your booksigning for LTOYW in Atlanta where I told you that you had been an inspiration for me to follow my dream to write and I had just signed my first YA book contract two days prior. (I was still in a bit of delirious shock and post baby sleep deprivation so I probably appeared crazy). But you were so generous and gracious in your congratualtions.
So thank you again, not only for entertaining with fantastic novels, but for being an impetus that drove me to reach for what I thought was unreachable.
BTW, I'm in negotiations for a second YA contract and just completed my first adult women's fic manuscript :)

Hi Emily!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read your new book. It's been too long since Love the One You're With. Way too long. :)
I wanted to share my reading experience with your first book. Years ago, I was browsing the new books section at the library when I picked up Something Borrowed. I normally never read books while at the library (much preferring the comfort of my bed), but once I started reading yours, I couldn't stop. I must've sat there the whole afternoon poring over your book. Ever since, I've been hooked.
I plan to be at your Barnes & Noble event in NYC May 12, but it would be awesomer if I won an advanced copy. :)
Thank you for the wonderful reads. Keep 'em coming!

Greetings from California!
ReplyDeleteI am eagerly waiting for Heart of the Matter. When I found out that they were making Something Borrowed into a movie I immediately re-read the books (I'm currently in the middle of Something Blue). They are even better the second time around. I'm not entirely pleased with the casting so far, well actually I'm just perplexed with Kate Hudson as Darcy because I just pictured her taller, darker, with Pantene-Pro-V-commercial-worthy-hair, and very angular features. But I know Kate is a good actress, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
As for the other books, I really enjoyed Baby Proof because it was for the most part about how there can be no absolutes in life. You can't decide that you want something and think you will never change your mind. I was 12 years old when I decided I would never get married, and now I can't wait for my BF to pop the question.
In Love the One You're With I was kind of pissed off that Ellen didn't go back to Leo when she had the chance, I mean they had such good chemistry, so I wanted her to at least try. But at the same time she probably made the right choice for the long run.
So I'm counting down the days for the movie and Heart of the Matter and I thank you for writing such wonderful novels that strike so many chords for all of us.

Emily,
ReplyDeleteYou are a wonderful writer and select the perfect topics to which others can completely relate. You perfectly portray those universal feelings that make us all human. I continue to turn my friends onto your novels because of my absolute adoration for each one in its own right.
Something Borrowed is by far my favorite. It engrossed me from beginning to end and was really quite thought provoking. After reading it several times, I have to say that I have taken a lot from it. Some can spend their whole lives searching for "the one." And I think that your novel truly provides people with a sense of hope to find a world of our own with someone whom we love, regardless of what we must sacrifice to find our own form of happiness, and to dismiss things from our lives that bring us down.
Congratulations on all of your success. I can only imagine your excitement with the upcoming film and I completely share in those sentiments with you!
Keep writing-- my friends and I will always be here to read!!

ReplyDeleteWell I can't decide if I like Something Borrowed or Something Blue better because when I'm reading either I'll say that one is my favorite. Actually my best friend that introduced me to these books had been in London for the past 2 years and is coming home on May 11th, same release date as your new book! Needless to say I'm very excited about this next book and I'm sure I'll love it as much as the others. I don't see how I couldn't bring that friend if I win this trip to come meet you and attend the launch party!

WOW! Congratulations on the new release and the recent castings~all the talk on FB about 'who should play who' had me re-reading Something Borrowed this past weekend~~Love it!!! Best wishes for continued success. We have joked at my house that the kids are allowed to give me an IOU for Mother's Day on the 9th since what I really want this year isn't available until the 11th-- I KNOW it will be worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for the new book. Love everything you write, and love that you're so close with your fans. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for your new book to come out!!! I love all your books. I'm really anxious to find out more about Something Borrowed being made into a movie. I want to know who will play Dex!
ReplyDeleteI will be sure to buy the new book on the day it comes out!

Hi Emily!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new website! I'm so happy that your readers can follow you on Facebook as we wait for the next book! I would LOVE to win that advance, autographed copy. :D
I first heard about you on a flight between California and Tennessee. A woman recommended them to me. I picked the whole lot of them when Target had a special advertisement. I have since read them and shared them with a friend i work with. I love your work and thank you for sharing your fabulous talent!
Wishing you continued success and counting the days.... :D

I love all your books, but Something Borrowed was the first one I read. I loved Rachel immediately. Even though you are not supposed to condone sleeping with a friend's man, her struggle to do the right thing vs. finding true love was so amazing to read. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about the new book and the upcoming movie. I have passed your books around to all of my English students. It is so much fun to share your stories with them. I can't wait to see you in Atlanta!

OK - so I'm reading Something Borrowed and I get this strange feeling that I've been there before. There were references to streets and names that were familiar. Then I thought, "Hmm, I had a lunch lady named June in my high school too!" Well after some investigating I realized that I graduated with you! I loved the story and have enjoyed every book you've released since, but there was nothing more cool than to realize that I knew what the places were like that you wrote about. Very neat! Can't wait for the new release! Congrats and good luck!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all your success! I've been anxiously awaiting the release of your new book. It seems I go through this every year. As soon as your new book is released, I buy it and read it within a day or two! Nevertheless, I always look forward to your books. And congrats on the movie deal too! I'm looking forward to seeing Darcy, Rachel and Dex come to life!
ReplyDeleteEmily,
ReplyDeleteI didn't follow the directions for the entry very well! :) I started reading Love the One Your With while flying home from a trip to Spain. My gallbladder had decided to die, so I had to be rushed home. I was so upset, that I couldn't sleep on the plane ride. I had packed your book and started reading....and kept on reading. I read the entire book from Madrid to Atlanta! It kept me so calm and I forgot all about my "gallbladder matter."
Ellen was so frustrating at times, but I just loved her. She knew who she was, but suffered from the age-old "discontentment" that so many women experience in life. She had such an awesome husband, but just couldn't help but to be bothered by the one man who stole her heart years before....so realistic.

I am so excited to read Heart of the Matter in May! I have loved all your books, and can't wait to see Something Borrowed as well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all of your success, and I look forward to your future books!
Emily,
ReplyDeleteI am an absolute lover of your books! I picked up my first two for a trip to Vegas this past summer! By the end of our journey there the first book was finished and by the time we got home the second book was finished! I loved your books so much I actually went looking for more in the airport bookstore and was pleased to find the 3rd and read that one within 24 hours of starting it! Your books are so addicting I just cannot put them down! I got your fourth book for Christmas and once again that book did not disappoint and once again the book was finished within 24 hours! You are a wonderful writer and have an amazing way to draw readers in!
I was talking about your books at a New Year’s party and one of my mom's said she would like to read it. Everyone laughed because she has not finished a book in over 15 years. Nonetheless I brought her the book and she absolutely loved it! While she did not finish it as quickly as I did, she did finish it and is now on to your second book! So I would just like to say thank you for writing such interesting books to bring long-time non-readers back to reading!
I cannot wait for your fifth book and the first movie! I will be in line on May 11th and opening day! Thanks again for your wonderful books!

I am so excited for Heart of the Matter in May, and I have really enjoyed all of your books. I love the strong female leads and sweet stories. Can't wait for the Something Borrowed film!

I read the excerpt to Heart of the Matter, and I was immediately hooked! I cannot wait until it hits the stores! I've read all your books, but got through the Something... books in DAYS--I just couldn't put them down. Congratulations, and keep writing!!
ReplyDeleteHi Emily,
ReplyDelete43 Days until "Heart of The Matter" is in my hands...58 Days until you will be in Naperville for your book signing - which I will be attending. I have been to every one of your signigs in Naperville and I cannot wait until we meet again.
Your books are such a great comfort to me. Whenever life gets tough - and it does often - I can always rely on your wonderfully written novels to get me back on my feet. You are my inspiration in my own writing, life and everything in between.
Congratulations on everything you have done!! I am so excited for the movie deal - I can't wait to see Darcy, Rachel, and Dex on the big screen - I even got my boyfriend excited. I have also been voting on Facebook and I am very pleased with the wonderful actors/actresses that will make my favorite characters come to life.
Thank you for being my inspiration.
Love,

Have loved all of your books and can't wait for the next one in May. All of the heroines in your books are so real - they feel like they could easily be my friend. And the way you draw the reader in to the main characters feelings and emotions - always a wonderful reading experience!
ReplyDeleteHi Emily!
ReplyDeleteI am such a huge fan of your work! I have read every one of your books and cannot wait for Heart of the Matter to come out! I've been looking forward to it since I saw on your website that you were working on a new book. Your books are impossible to put down and I usually finish them within 48 hours! I am so happy that I saw Something Borrowed in Borders and bought it on a whim because it introduced me to your fanatasic stories and way of writing! I cannot tell you how excited I am for the movie Something Borrowed! I absolutely love the cast!!
Thanks for your amazing stories, keep them coming, you are truly an amazing author!

I love all of your books. I cannot wait for the movies, Something Borrowed and Something Blue. You are a wonderful author.
ReplyDeleteHi Emily!
ReplyDeleteI have been counting down the days until Heart of the Matter is released and I cannot believe it is so soon. After a friend suggested I read Baby Proof after a break up I fell in love with your work. Since then I have indulged in every single one of your books numerous times. In each book I feel like I am friends with each character and know them on a personal level which never rarely happens when I pick up books!
My best friend and I absolutely love your work and are going to roadtrip to your book signing in Philadelphia. See you there and can't wait to get my hands on the new book so soon!
--Ashley F.

I am a huge fan of yours, and find you to be such an inspiration. My favorite things about your books are the well developed characters and the rich back story. I have read Something Borrowed and Something Blue at least five times each...
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read your new book :-)
Hey girls! Emily--adore your books. I have loved reading this blog so far, because it is great to see that there are other chicklets out there who ALSO can't get enough of your writing! I loved all of your books (stayed up til 3 am reading Baby Proof--EVEN THOUGH I had read ahead and knew the ending!), but there was something magical about Something Borrowed. That book grabbed me by the gut and didn't let go! So much tension, resolved with such wisdom and heart (even if we really don't see Darcy's until Something Blue)!
ReplyDeleteAlso, since "anything goes", I love the way you write your characters' (*ahem*) "romantic" scenes--your sex scenes ar always so saucy, not nasty, just enough important details that you wish it had been YOU on that date last night...
Anyway--so glad you are out there writing. I remain a rabid fan, depite the fact that you are gorgous, wise, successful, the mother of THREE SMALL CHILDREN, and, perhaps most disturbing of all, YOUNGER than me! :-D
Thanks, girlie!

I am obsessed with these books! When I read something borrowed I was sick with a sinus infection and I read it in about a day. Then I powered through the other 3 books in the same week. My boyfriend got very little attention and thought I got too emotionally involved in the books. But they changed my life. It made me really look at love and life differently and what is meant to be. I love the casting of Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel because Rachel is my fav of Emilys characters and Ginnifer is one of my fav actresses. She has such a vulnerability and edge about her that I think is perfect!! CANT WAIT!!!!

ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you how excited I am about "The Heart Of The Matter"...I picked up "Something Borrowed" one day because I liked the cover art (that's right, I judge books by their covers :o) ), and I've been hooked ever since! I got my mom and her best friend hooked on your books, too. I only wish you were coming to Houston on your book tour. :o\
ReplyDeleteI recently had my own experience with a "toxic friendship"...or should I say, I recently experienced getting out of one. It's funny, we were still best of friends when I read "Something Borrowed," and even then I related to Rachel and saw my friend as Darcy...I should have taken that as a hint, but oh well. I can honestly say that life is so much easier without her in it, and I hope she goes through her own Darcy-like growth. Here's a picture (I hope it works!) of us in better days...even then, she always had to overshadow me by acting crazy: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=35757003&op=6&o=all&view=all&subj=29603920&aid=2004483&auser=29603920&id=8306143
By the way, I know a lot has been said about the casting of Rachel as a brunette and Darcy as a blonde...I always saw them that way! Maybe because I related to Rachel and I'm brunette and my personal "Darcy" was blonde. *shrugs* Oh, and I can't wait to see the movie! :o)

I cannot wait for your new book to come out in May! I just love everything that you write. It has been really neat following along on Facebook as the cast of Something Borrowed has been picked...Although I may not have picked some of the actors as my first choice, I know the movie will be great! I cannot decide whether Something Borrowed or Something Blue is my favorite book. If the new book is anything like the others I know I will finish it in no time and love it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE all your books! Can't wait for the movie and Heart of the Matter!
ReplyDeleteHi Emily!
ReplyDeleteI met you today at the Mom's Tea for The Preschool. You did a FANTASTIC job! Thank you! I am so excited for your next book and the movies coming out! I almost burst into tears when you read the excerpt from your new book (that could have to do with the pregnancy hormones though)! But really, I feel a lot of us moms can relate to the main characters since they are both mothers too. When reading your books, I'm always thinking how scenes would play out or who would be cast in a certain role if it ever became a movie. Now I will really get to see it! You are a wonderful and inspirational person and it was so great to meet you today!

Since you had me tearing up at your first reading of new book, I am sure it is amazing. I started my love of your books when my book club read Baby Proof, and I couldn't get enough of your writing. I read Something Borrowed and Something Blue so fast (mostly while I was nursing my son Charlie) that I will read them again before the movies premiere. The way that Darcy transforms from Borrowed to Blue is astonishing and heartwarming. The love triangle in Love the One You're With has caused many heated discussions among our book club. Congratulations on all of your much-deserved success.

I've read all your books and Something Borrowed is still my favorite (although Baby Proof runs a close second). I loved how you showed both sides of the story and how you can read this book and actually sympathize with Rachel, when, if you'd heard the story as gossip, you'd think she was an evil witch. Instead, she is one of my favorite characters.

I have never been a reader; in fact over the years I have been very embarrassed not to be a reader. When my friends would talk about the books they read, I would shy away, or when a stranger asked if I had read a good book lately or had heard of a particular author I would quickly try to change the subject. Then one day I came across “Something Borrowed” as I was setting up for a scholarship book sale I run…..I know, funny I run a book sale but I don’t read. This book looked different however, different from the rest, so I snagged it and thought to myself, I can give this whole reading thing a try…well, to my surprise I could not put the book down. And during the day I couldn’t wait until bed time so I could continue reading. My husband and even my children commented; I’ll never forget one comment from my son, “Mom, you know how to read?” said sarcastically, but maybe with a little true curiosity! Of course I can read I told him, I’ve been through many years of school and am working on my MBA….I just haven’t ever found a book that I wanted to read before now. I actually even found myself reading faster than my husband (a bit of a contest I had going on with myself) and would periodically say, “honey, aren’t you proud of me?” He would chuckle. So needless to say I absolutely loved reading this book and can thank Emily Griffin for giving me the opportunity to be able to chat with those strangers about a recent book read. I also gave my best friend and my sister a copy to read, keeping my own of course! Thank you Emily!

Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to be able to read another book of yours! I have read them all- the first one being Something Blue- which I read on my honeymoon! The book was so good my husband started to get jealous :) Ethan by far is my favorite character out of all of your books- I felt that I connected with his personality the best. I really like reading your books because they take my mind into a fantasy realm, but at the same time stay so close to home. I absolutely love the intricate details that you put into your descriptions- it was so fun to learn about good fashion and clothing ideas from Darcy! I'm excited about the movie and the casting, I can't wait!
An anecdote of a toxic friendship?...hmm. Forgiveness and mercy.
